2.14.24 – C.S. Lewis C.S. Lewis said on 1 Peter 5:6 “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” Peter reminds us that we are not humbling ourselves under the hand of our human authorities, including the elders in the church. No, we are willingly humbling ourselves under the hand of God.

2.15.24 The Hebrew word for fasting is tsum, which means to abstain from food, while the Greek word for fasting is nesteuo, which means to abstain from food or drink. In both the Old and New Testaments, fasting was a deliberate, outward act which demonstrated utter dependence on God. Isaiah 58:6–8 are words from God to his people when they were going through the day to day religious routines. While they were fasting and participating in religious rituals, they were ignoring the poor around them. They were not only oppressing people around them also ignoring other oppressed people by others around them. While it may be taken as acts of charity, to release those unjustly oppressed, they should also contribute to the rescue and ransom of those that are oppressed by others, and to the release of captives and the payment of the debts of the poor. Isaiah 58:6–8 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?” This makes me rethink fasting.

2.16.24 Psalm 42:2 “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” This is a question I think about sometimes when is the end or my end, will Christ come before I die, I have not idea and would not want to guess. I do want to see God, I think I thirsts for that event! I think I still have more to learn and do in this life, but I ready to go see God if that happens today! I am hopeful for a better understanding of life after I get to meet God in person. I can only imagine what life with God is like in heaven! While I may not be able to understand the greater picture of what God has planned, whatever that is, I want to be a part of it. I do imagine that we will have things to in heaven. I thirsts to do better in my life, to better server God!

2.17.23 – Joel 2: 12-14… “Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate,” I feel blessed that God is gracious and compassionate, without that we could not be saved and there would not have been Jesus Christ. I want to try to be more gracious and compassionate like Jesus, while I have a long way to go I a hopeful I can get better! I think it’s hard to give your hold heart, I often get distracted by the desires within me! I pray for help each day for help in all that I do and say! “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”

2.19.24 – Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” I have to ask myself what are my treasures, the correct answers I think is God/Christ (Jesus) should always be my treasure. But I know over my life that for sure has not always been true all of the time. While it is my goal to put Christ first, by searching for that treasure, one that I do not think I will not fully get until I get to meet Christ face to face. I can say I have not been successful at making God first in my life all of the time, so what is my treasure where is my heart? Each day I try to put God first, in my thoughts, with issue or questions, I do think about God often many time a day. I seek answers, direction and wisdom, but it’s is hard to know all of the time is this me I’m listen to or Christ. One big questions for myself, if tying good enough? I often feel as if I take more than I given. I do feel that I have fallen short, I think many of us do. In the world we live in, we spend a lot of time seeking food, shelter, family, love, possessions and many other activities that we all get involved in, we call all of this our life. I think most of seek God, my question for me is how do I do a better job at making God my treasure so that my heart is truly Christ centered in all that I do. I’m a work in progress but most of my life is behind me, so I feel as if I must work harder. I’m still trying to understand my heart, and I need to make God my one true treasure.

2.20.24 Lamentations 3:25 – “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;” reminds us that, in Christ, the Lord will be faithful to be there every morning with enough new mercy to get us through today’s troubles, sin, and pain. This book is filled with pain, misery, and the consequences of a sinful and broken world. I think we too live in a broken world as in the time of Jeremiah. I know I seek the Lord each day and my hope is in Christ. When we wake up, God’s mercies are new, God’s mercy will never run out. Regardless of how often we rely on God’s compassion, there will be more for us tomorrow. I am hopeful!

Isaiah 30:18 Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! Without God’s Love fr us, we would all be lost, to me this is a blessing that our God is compassion & justice! We should be the same to everyone.

Psalm 27:14 Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. – Waiting is hard to do we often want to react to what we perceive as a problem in our lives in the world. We need our faith and trust in God that he can handle whatever’s before us. We need to be able to wait in faith not fear.

2.23.24 Matthew 6:16-18 – 16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Fasting is designed to humble us and help us draw closer to God. It is not a form of penance or a way to attain favor with God through self-imposed suffering. I think fasting is for a period of time in order to focus your thoughts on God. In Lent many people give up something during the 40 days. I think given up something if you truly take it as fasting and you spend that time focusing on God for me is what should be done, and not doing fasting as a ritual. I don’t think it’s something we should be announcing to others. I know in other church I have been in many people ask what are you giving up for Lent, I have always been uncomfortable with that. Fasting I think should be a personal experience getting closer to our Savior/God. I believe fasting is to abstain from eating food and/or drink with a spiritual purpose. What do you think?

2.24.24 – Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – When I first read this my thought was I would love to see what an eagle experiences, I would love to soar with the eagles. I think one day we will get a new search perspective from Christ when we make it to heaven.
From Christianwalls.com – This is one of God’s exhortation verses in the bible. It promises strength for the exhausted. God knows that as humans, we take matters into our hands and follow our human strategy which tends to fail or disappoint us. And here, is a call to an exhortation to wait upon Him, have faith in Him and we will be victorious. ‘Waiting’ is seen as a difficult task for most people during their challenging times.
They see it as God is too slow or doesn’t care about them. Otherwise, He wouldn’t ask them to wait. Waiting in this context means to trust or have faith in God despite the situation or circumstances you are faced with. Having confidence in God that whatever He has said in His word concerning you or the challenge, He will surely bring them to pass. For God is a way maker, promise keeper, and light in the darkness. Weeping may endure for the night, joy or happiness will come in the morning.
He has promised that those who trust or have faith in Him will not be overwhelmed by the storms of life but rather, He will lift up their heads and they will be victorious. God is with us in all aspects and tough situations of life, and He wants us to trust Him in every phase of it because He will bring us out through His unlimited power.

    Psalm 33:20-22
    20 We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.
I wait in hope my hope and faith is in God, I am not successful every day, but I try every day. I may have bad days which I stray from God, but I know Gos still love me even when I fail. I definitely have good days too in which my hope is stronger.

Waiting involves an attitude and a posture. The attitude can be of expectation or of hope. The posture reflects an attitude of trust for we stop our busyness to wait and be.

In today’s times, with the information that we have at our fingertips, we sometimes expect things immediately. News and all kind of information are at a fingertips, just to click away. You go to a fast food restaurant and you see people standing there waiting for food and some are very impatient and sometimes I find myself impatient. I think of the 40 years in the desert Israel had to wait to see their promised land. Today we wait for the coming of Jesus. Waiting nothing new in anyone’s life, sometime we just have to wait. I think I need to pray and fast more during this time of waiting, to align my heart and mind to God’s will.

    Psalm 130:5-6
5 I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
6 I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Romans 12:12 – 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
The above verse shows us how we are to respond in various situations we face in life. Our hearts should be full of joy because we have hope in Christ. When facing troubles, patience will prevent us from giving up before seeing our victory. Prayer is something we do always and in every situation knowing God will answer our prayers. (from lordsguidance.com)

My mind has always been my biggest obstacle. But I try each day to be joyful in hope in Christ.

    Hosea 12:6
    6 But you must return to your God;
    maintain love and justice,
and wait for your God always.

Only God I believe can bring true justice, in God’s judgment of each of us will the truth be clear. While I know that man tries to implement justice there are to many obstacles for us to know what is true many times, that in many cases we do not know the truth since we do not know all of the facts. As in the case of death, we cannot bring back a life that was taken, but God can! I believe that in heaven, all things will be new with the God’s of justice, love, & grace, then we may will know God’s truth. We often have hate, revenge and anger in our hearts as we seek justice in an unjust world. But I give thanks for God’s that he has grace and love for me. I must wait on God always!

    Matthew 6:33
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
We all seek things in our life, maybe it’s a new car, house, clothes, food, & etc, our society and economy, is all about consumption. Sometimes it’s hard to think about the future, I know for me it was hard when I was young it seemed so far away. Now I know that what I should have been seeking was God/Christ, that is the true future of this body we call man.
But I think of heaven as more than a place to go, it’s our opportunity to live with God and be productive beings working for God. I have no real idea of what to expect but I can imagine it is a place of love, hope fulfilled & an understand of the real truth, without the lies of evil, that seems to consume a lot of our world. I think we are blessed with this life, I can only guess that who we are here is who we will be in heaven, but better! Thanks to Christ and his sacrifice that we may have life. I’am seeking God’s kingdom through Christ.

    1 Peter 5:6-7
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

I try to be a humble person. Sometimes I want to be notice for what I have done, but at the same time I think of all of those who do much more than me so I do not speak out. I often feel embarrassed if noticed or pointed out. Rarely is anything done by yourself, there are always other’s that also helped making something happen.

Not sure how many people notice another person anxiety, I think most people do a good job of hiding their anxiety. Many times I have found myself being anxiety, if I stopped and prayed to God for help and I would find a new peace and get through what ever I was feeling very anxiety about. But I know each time I prayed to God for help, everything always worked out, I was always amazed, and thankful to God.

God help me to be a humble person and help me bring my anxiety to you always.

    Galatians 5:5
5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.

I can say that I eagerly await Christ return, while my heart is concerned about ones I love that they do not appear to be believe in Christ. But I am hopeful they will find their way to Christ. I read this online “Paul is referring to the day of judgment, when we will hear God Himself declare us righteous because of our faith in Christ. Until that day, we wait, placing all our hope in just one person: Jesus.”

If we believe in Christ, I think our fate is sealed. That is my hope!

This is always my prayer almost every day, I am always looking for God guidance and direction, sometimes I feel I must be hardheaded because it’s difficult to understand the answer. I believe it’s time for a change in my approach in this Bible verse reminds me of that. I need to learn how to listen better.

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness in Matthew 4: 1-11 while I have not had Satan come talk with me in person. I have feel that evil is all around us in this our world. We see it everyday on the news and TV. I don’t think you can runaway from temptation since it’s all around us, but we do have to gravitate toward it. I have think of Christ all of the time to have in the success in avoiding temptation.
