Pastor Mike’s Devotion

Proverbs 22:28 NIV
Do not move an ancient boundary stone set up by your ancestors.

Introduction: Taking another look at guidance. We look for fixed points of reference. Don’t try to move what has already been established as a guidance marker.  Go to a house of worship.

I. Things we all recognize
A. I look first to scripture, then reason, tradition and then doctrine.

B. Counting heads in the congregation began with ancient Israel. Numbers 1:2 Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the p number of names, every male individually, 3 from twenty years old and above—all who are able to go to war in Israel.

C. The New Testament requires that we gather:
Hebrews 10:25 Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching

II. The Tradition of Going to Church
A.  For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20 NIV

B. The custom of Jesus was to go to a house of worship. He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read Luke 4:16 NIV

C.The custom of the Apostle Paul was to go to a house of worship. As was Paul’s custom, he went to the synagogue service, and for three Sabbaths in a row he used the Scriptures to reason with the people.Acts 17:2 NIV

D. It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters Matthew 25:10

III.  What is your custom?

A. Look for and maintain old boundaries

B.Build me a house God said build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored Micah 1:8 NIV

ConclusionIt’s getting to be time for us to consider our ways.  The Covid Pandemic is slowing.  Soon authorities will lesson the Social Distancing mandates.  Where is your heart set.  What will you do?

Genesis 4:7 (GNT)
If you had done the right thing, you would be smiling; but because you have done evil, sin is crouching at your door. It wants to rule you, but you must overcome it.

The virus isn’t the whole struggle of life.

7. Keep your marriage promises.
8. Do not steal.

“Abundant Life”

Devotion by Pastor Mike – “Abundant Life”

1 Peter 1:17-23
1:17 If you invoke as Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds, live in reverent fear during the time of your exile.

1:18 You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold,

1:19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.

1:20 He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake.

1:21 Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are set on God.

1:22 Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart.

1:23 You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.

I.
The season “of Easter” is not a time for worm thinking! It is a time for claiming the gift of abundant life.

II. It is a time of picking ourselves and one an other up when we have fallen to get our feet back on the path toward the kin-dom of God

III. It’s back on the dance floor where we can express our joy in whose we have become).

Conclusion:
We’re on the upward way!

Good Evening From Pastor Mike

1 John Chapter 1

1 John 1  (NIV)
The Incarnation of the Word of Life
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.
Light and Darkness, Sin and Forgiveness
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Stand

“Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.”
Og Mandino

In many ways this may describe some aspect of the faith God wants us to stand in.

You can’t go under for going over.

Have you ever noticed how many of the Old Testament stories were about this tension.  Little David facing Goliath, Israel marching around the walls of Jericho, Elijah soaking an altar with water to call down fire from heaven to defeat the prophets of Baal.

You can do it.

Ephesians 6:13, 14
Therefore put on the full armor of God that you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then…

The Sunday After

Genesis 1:1-10

Sunday After
In Thee Arms of Sweet Deliverance

Genesis 1:1-10
The Beginning

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

One Purpose

One Purpose

John 18:37-38 (GNT)
37 So Pilate asked him, “Are you a king, then?”
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. I was born and came into the world for this one purpose, to speak about the truth. Whoever belongs to the truth listens to me.”
38 “And what is truth?” Pilate asked.
Then Pilate went back outside to the people and said to them, “I cannot find any reason to condemn him.

Start Your Week (4/13/20)

Isaiah 12:2 Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

Trust and not be afraid

  • There is an act of the will
  • Trust must be decided upon
  • The outcome of our decision affects whether or not we have fear

My strength and my song

  • My decision to not have fear
  • Strength replaces fear
  • I gain a song (life energy)

My salvation

  • God joins with me
  • I made the decision to place my mind on trust and not fear
  • God turns things around

“A little bit depends on me so a whole lot can depend on God” mps

Malachi 4:2  (GNT)
2 But for you who obey me, my saving power will rise on you like the sun and bring healing like the sun’s rays. You will be as free and happy as calves let out of a stall.

Early in my ministry, a couple years out of bible college I went to work at a Christian Youth Ranch in Jamul, California.  I was the Youth Pastor at the church that owned the ranch.  One day in front of a barn, a calf came hopping out and ran right toward me. Someone yelled, “hold your arms out and it will turn.” That calf ran right into me knocking me down, then it danced on me awhile and ran off. A happy calf.

Seek out the rays of the sun.  There’s healing in its brightness. Obey the Lord, enjoy God’s saving power, now get some sun and you’ll be a happy calf.

“Something”

It’s Palm Sunday Today:
Palm Sunday is about the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. (Matthew 21:1–9) As He did palm branches were placed in his path. Then He was arrested on Maundy Thursday and his crucifixion was on Good Friday. It marks the beginning of Holy Week, which is the final week of Lent

True Wisdom
has Two Sides!

Job 11:6
He would tell you there are many sides to wisdom; there are things too deep for human knowledge.
God is punishing you less than you deserve.

Romans 8:22
For we know that up to the present time all of creation groans with pain, like the pain of childbirth.
